Integrative Treatments
Following a thorough evaluation - interviewing the child, adolescent, or adult, and their families, obtaining collateral information (e.g., school, outside therapists, psychological reports, spouse), and doing a medical workup (e.g., labs, sleep studies, etc.) - we will determine together if medication management is indicated and if the child, adolescent or adult would benefit from such an intervention.

I truly appreciate the value of therapeutic interventions for children, adolescents, adults, and their families, either alone or in combination with medication management. I offer the following therapeutic interventions: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Supportive Therapy, and Parent Training.
There is great value in looking at alternative treatments when providing care - in combination with traditional approaches or alone - especially when patients and their families want to use more natural or holistic methods. Alternative therapies include nutritional assessments and looking at nutrition's role in preventing and treating mood, ADHD, and anxiety disorders, recommending different foods to add to their diet, and supplements that may help treat various illnesses. It also includes promoting the importance of regular exercise since studies have shown that exercise can help prevent and manage mood and anxiety issues as well - Rx for exercise and healthy eating!
Cultural Psychiatry
For children and teens of color and their families, I think it's essential to look at the impact of racism on mental health, the role of racial identity development, intergenerational trauma, and internalized racism. Providing support, validation, and teaching skills to help children and teens better traverse these situations and have healthier outcomes.
I am hoping to have a group for Teens of Color in the near future!
Consultation
My practice provides mental health education and support to students, teachers/schools, parents, and primary care providers to increase understanding of mental health issues, reduce stigma, and provide help and support to those in need.
Presentations
My practice offers a variety of presentations to the community, such as churches and national organizations, to provide mental health education on a variety of topics. Presentations are tailored to the needs of the group and are designed to give a comprehensive overview of mental health topics, while helping to reduce the stigma around mental health. I believe that education is a powerful tool in improving the mental health of our community. Speaker's fee may apply.
